I'm alive! I know I'm horrible at updating this blog, but having just moved up to Maryland and working day and night to try and pay rent while I keep looking for a full-time, permanent job, has pretty much taken up all my time. I've been doing a temporary, freelance project that has afforded me a little breathing room for the month, so I'm in here updating and trying to get caught up on all my writing deadlines coming up. There are so many cool contests and fellowships with deadlines at the end of February and early March! It's exciting, but it also means that it's time to buckle down.
You know what I wish sometimes? That the following would happen to me:
From Wikipedia:
Having written several long stories, Harper Lee located an agent in November 1956. The following month at the East 50th townhouse of her friends Michael Brown and Joy Williams Brown, she received a gift of a year's wages from them with a note: "You have one year off from your job to write whatever you please. Merry Christmas."[6] She quit her job and devoted herself to her craft. Within a year, she had a first draft. Working with J. B. Lippincott & Co. editor Tay Hohoff, she completed To Kill a Mockingbird in the summer of 1959. Published July 11, 1960, To Kill a Mockingbird was an immediate bestseller and won great critical acclaim, including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1961. It remains a bestseller with more than 30 million copies in print.
Could you guys imagine?! A year off, paid, to write a future Pulitzer Prize winning novel? Where do I sign up? Of course, I'd have to come up with a Pulitzer winning concept first, but details details.
Since it's a new year, I think I'm going to change the layout of the site. A little change is always good. I'm also going to attempt to put up the rest of the photos that I've promised. The problem is that I need to go through the photos in my new place and figure out what made the move and didn't. Then I need to scan the appropriate images. This might be more work than I anticipated. :\
About a month ago I finished reading Melissa Anelli's book, Harry: A History, which is an awesome book written about the Harry Potter phenomena. Anelli has a way with words and I'm serious when I say that I felt every emotion as if I was experiencing her crazy journey with her. If you're a writer, then you need to go read that book now. Like right now! I want to read it again, but I'm in the middle of three books so it's going to have to wait. Maybe I'll read it as a reward for finishing one of the books I'm currently reading...
